ADRA Yemen is undertaking programs in Yemen in the fields of health, nutrition, WASH, food security, livelihoods, and protection.

SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Translator with strong translation skills in the researches and demonstrated experience in conducting studies and academic researches Translation. He/she should have excellent English language skills, with the ability to interpret, translate, and accurately convey meaning between Arabic and English.
The Translator will support the PhD Fellow in conducting interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and other data collection activities with beneficiaries in the field. This includes providing real-time interpretation from Arabic to English during data collection to ensure accurate transcription and analysis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide interpretation between Arabic and English during interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and other research activities.
  • Translate written materials (e.g., consent forms, research tools, and questionnaires) between English and Arabic.
  • Provide cultural interpretation by advising the PhD Fellow on local customs, values, and social norms within farming communities in Lahj and across Yemen.
  • Engage in discussions on climate change, food security, and humanitarian/development contexts in Yemen to support the research process.
  • Support discussions on the interpretation and linguistic nuances of Arabic terminology used in the research.
  • Undertake field travel to support interviews and FGDs (including travel from Aden to villages in Tur Al-Baha and Al-Qabbaytah districts).
  • Coordinate interview schedules with beneficiaries and support logistical arrangements, including transportation and meeting locations.
  • Adhere to the organization’s safeguarding framework, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, anti-harassment, and ethical conduct policies, ensuring alignment with international standards (e.g., Core Humanitarian Standard, UN CRC).
  • Promptly report safeguarding concerns or violations through designated channels, maintain confidentiality, and participate in mandatory safeguarding training to uphold a safe, inclusive environment for all stakeholders.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by direct and technical supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Languages Translation (English – Arabic), or Engineering, or Social Sciences, or Agricultural Sciences, or a related field is required. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in translating studies and academic research. 
  • Excellent command of both Arabic and English languages (written and spoken) is required.
  • Excellent translation skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular).
