MIDWIFE SUPERVISOR
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international,

Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium in Yemen mission is looking
for Yemeni nationals to recruit for the MIDWIFE SUPERVISOR position.
- Location: PHCCs
and outreach activities in Aden and Lahj governorates
- Contract
duration: Six (6) months, with the possibility of extension
- Contract
type: Fixed-Term contract
- Reporting
to: Mobile Health Activity Manager/Project Medical Referent
Main Purpose:
Supervising the clinical activities and guaranteeing the
quality of midwifery care in the department, according to MSF protocols, values
and universal hygiene standards in order to provide a high-quality Mother and
Child Health (MCH) care to the population.
Accountabilities:
- Supervising,
supporting and evaluating the team under his/her responsibility
particularly midwives, midwife assistants and other related staff in her
team such as cleaners. Planning and organizing their work (areas, days,
absences, vis-its, holidays, etc.) and coaching them in their work with
special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
- Ensuring
teamwork and a professional relationship between maternity and other
departments.
- Supervising
the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities
such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up,
post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born
vaccinations and liaising with the Medical Doctor about the patients who
need special care times, visiting hours, etc.
- Ensuring
that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the
universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and
infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of
hygiene in the working environment
- Ensuring
that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained, cleaning
and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols,
reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
- Being
responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and
consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
- Being
responsible for ensuring that all the administrative procedures, patients’
data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling
monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
- In
certain contexts, being responsible for ensuring that the maternity staff
is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV
in collaboration with the Obs & Gyne MD and following the protocols
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
The Midwife Supervisor is responsible for the technical
supervision, mentoring and capacity building of maternity and SRH staff,
ensuring the effective delivery of SRH services and revival, functionality, and
quality of BEmONC services at one of the supported fixed MoH PHCC.
- Lead
efforts to revive and operationalize BEmONC facility including assessment
of current gaps in skills and knowledge.
- Ensure
staff competency in BEmONC including:
- Management
of normal labor and delivery
- Identification
and initial management of obstetric and newborn emergencies
- Stabilization
and referral when required.
- Support
the establishment of clear referral pathways and emergency preparedness.
- Provide
day-to-day technical support supervision to midwives and maternity staff
in fixed PHCCs.
- Ensure
adherence to MSF and national protocols.
- Monitor
and improve the quality of ANC, PNC, FP and newborn care.
- Promote
patient-centered approaches, especially for migrants and IDPs.
- Identify
training needs and support implementation of targeted trainings.
- Work
closely with MoH PHCC staff to ensure alignment with national systems.
- Coordinate
with medical, nursing, pharmacy, and logistics teams to ensure service
readiness.
- Participate
in relevant coordination meetings related to SRH and maternal health.
- Support
accurate SRH (BEmONC) data collection and reporting.
- Contribute
to regular reports and provide recommendations for quality improvement.
- Ensure
strong IPC practices in maternity and delivery areas.
- Support
implementation of GBV care
- Ensure
patients safety and confidentiality
Job requirements
Education
- Diploma
of Midwife (or any Diploma recognized in the country and /or the Ministry
of Health to practice as such)
Experience
- Minimum
5 year of clinical midwifery experience
- Previous
experience in supervision or leading the team.
- Experience
working with NGOs, humanitarian medical organizations.
- Strong
knowledge of BEmONC standards and practices
Knowledge: Fluent in written and spoken
English
